Tanknology is widely recognised as a market leader in the precision testing of underground storage tanks, and we are the only one offering a full internal camera inspection of underground storage tanks, we operate under an exclusive license agreement from Tanknology Inc, we have had a presence within the UK since the early 1990’s, but have been independently owned since Sept 1999.
Since Tanknology has been within the UK we have achieved BASEFFA approvals, UK third party approval, London Fire Authority approval and were the first precision tank testing company to have operated under strict guidelines within the UK. We are now the first to offer a full internal inspection of underground fuel storage tanks without the need for the hazardous man entry.

Tanknology operates predominately within the Petroleum Industry. It has two products, the main one precision tests underground fuel storage tanks, the second internally inspects them using camera technology. Both these systems are well known within this business sector as being the market leaders.
Tanknology (UK) Ltd main market is the petroleum sector, however this market is growing into other areas predominately because more people in other sectors have underground storage tanks and given our environmental policies more people are requiring our services.
The Petroleum sector is also constantly changing, currently we are seeing the introduction of environmentally friendly products, and namely Ethanol based products. This product can be in both petrol and diesel and can be manufactured to different percentage levels. We are seeing low levels of ethanol in petrol E10 (10%), the same goes for diesel, however these will soon grow up to 85% (E85). As with all changes comes additional challenges, equipment as well as operating practices all have to change to incorporate new products.
We at Tanknology are ideally positioned to take advantage of these changes, most of which are being introduced from America, The license we operate originates from Tanknology Inc in the USA and there are already products and services being extensively used there especially for those associated with Ethanol, known as Ethanol Preparation Service, this actually prepares a tank for the introduction of products containing Ethanol, we have obtained this service and are incorporating it alongside all our other services.
A new business sector has been growing steadily since we re-entered the UK that is the diesel market. Until a few years ago only below ground storage tanks that stored petrol would require it’s tanks to be tested, this was due to only petrol being a licensed product, not diesel. The driving force behind this is the Environmental Agency, there quite heavy handed approach to “who ever pollutes pay’s”, has seen the tank testing industry growing in the numbers of tanks being tested year on year.
Our director is Darrin Francis, he has been within the Industry since 1989, during which he has gained an invaluable knowledge of the industry as well as contacts. Darrin has been trained to operate all our current systems we both sell and operate and has also been trained to the level of becoming the trainer/examiner of both new employees as well as the evaluation of the test results from all works undertaken, Darrin has also recently been elected to stand on the committee for the Petroleum Equipment Installers & Maintenance Federation.
New to Tanknology is Andrew Murch he has recently joined the company and formed a partnership with Darrin, Andrew is an experienced project manager from within the petroleum sector. Since 2000 he has been involved in a wide spectrum of activities including tank inspections, cleaning and lining.
We at Tanknology are experts in tank testing and tank inspections, we promote this fact as well as stating that we do not offer repairs following any faults we have diagnosed; quite simply it would be a conflict of interest to repair what we have found to be failed. We work with companies that have been employed to repair failures, thus these companies promote our services to other potential clients.
Over the last few years we have form successful partnerships with LCM Environmental and with Petroman, this partnership enables us to provide a complete service to the industry which includes,
